We are still on the front page of Reddit, and we have raised an amazing amount of money for the Faraja Orphanage and children in Kenya. Thank you to all Redditors and the online community! You have truly made a difference! Also check out the story on Twitter and the blogosphere: ZDNet, Th'Fight'N'Baby'S, Karma Decay, 10 Minutes, Alexandra Pusateri, and more! And more donations keep coming....
Weebly, the company that hosts this website, donated $10,000 to LEI to help children in Kenya! Thank you Weebly--you are a fantastic organization!
The Longonot Education Initiative was on the front page of Reddit again! And still is at the time of writing. We have had the most amazing day at LEI! Thank you to the Reddit community for all your help, encouragement, and support. Your donations will be helping on the ground in Kenya immediately!
Ben has arrived in Kenya. Soon we will be beginning construction at the Longonot school!
Yesterday our website made the front page of Reddit.com! We have since received an overwhelming amount of support through emails, comments, and $350 dollars in donations! We would like to thank the Reddit community, from the bottom of our hearts.
We would like to give a very special thanks to the Bloomington Living Hope Lutheran Church for their most recent donation of $2,223.77. As this is their second large donation to the school, they have now donated $4,012.55! We can not thank them enough for all of their hard work and support!
Kyle returned from his trip to Kenya a few weeks ago. While there, he met with the school's administrators, teachers and parents on a weekly basis to discuss plans for the school. It was decided that a lunch program was needed and could be started at the beginning of the next school term (September). Roughly $250 a month will provide the school's students one meal a day. This lunch program will benefit the student's nutrition and health while improving their ability to concentrate in class. We also hope this will attract more parents to send their kids to school. Lunches will be prepared by the teachers, parents, and community volunteers.
Two days ago, Kyle and Liana spoke at the Rotary Club of Richfield about our organization's development projects in Longonot. Prior to the speaking date the Club sent out this newsletter to its members!
Kyle is officially on his way back to Kenya! While there, he will work with the Longonot ECD teachers and administrators to plan the new school building. He will do his best to keep us updated through our blog!
Thank you to everyone who attended Ben's fundraising party this past weekend! The total amount raised was $756!
Ben will be hosting a fundraising party at his apartment in State College, Pennsylvania.
