How many people are on the staff of Longonot Education Initiative?
Our team is quite small—LEI began in 2011 with three founding members, and since then we have added a few additional team members. Our team takes turns on location and works on a strictly volunteer basis.
What percentage of donations goes towards LEI projects?
LEI strives to limit our administrative and overhead costs as much as possible. Now that a sponsor—Epic Displays—covers all of our organization’s overhead costs, 100% of all donations directly support our projects and children in Kenya. You can learn more about our 100% guarantee here.
Is LEI a registered, tax-exempt nonprofit organization?
LEI is registered as a nonprofit organization in the state of Minnesota (4191360-2) and is registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the IRS in the United States (Tax ID# 27-5377384). All donations to LEI are tax deductible in the US. You can learn more about 501(c)(3) organizations here.
Does the LEI staff receive salaries?
Our staff does not take any compensation for their work. All of our transportation between countries is paid for independently, and one of our sponsors—Epic Displays—covers our team’s necessary living expenses while in Kenya.
Are there any job or volunteer opportunities at LEI?
As our team does not receive any salaries, we currently do not offer any paid positions at LEI. We are however always looking for volunteers to assist us with fundraising (whether it be grant-writing, planning an event, or simply sharing our Facebook page!) or those who would like to work on the ground in Kenya. If you are interested in volunteering in any way, contact [email protected] for more details!
Where does LEI receive its funding?
Our team fundraises in numerous ways—through social media, grants, speaking engagements, organized events, and old-fashioned word of mouth. We are always looking for new and different ways to fundraise for our projects. If you would like to help fundraise, contact us at [email protected]!
How many children does LEI support?
Currently our organization supports nearly 150 children: -85 children at the LPK Daycare Center -40 children at the Longonot Education Center -18 children in our Sponsorship Program
